So, last month I said I was going to spend March very wisely and have it as a reset and prepare month – do a house deep clean, sort the garden, build routines…lots of other stuff that sounds great and very organised.
Did I do any of that? No, I did not.
I’ll be honest, I spent most of March panicking because I have no idea how to manage my time when it’s left 100% up to me.
Back when I was employed it was easy – I knew I was out of the house for a big chunk of time 5 days a week so all my work had to be done in the evenings or at weekends, it was hard work but I got it done because I had no other choice. Now that I have a choice as to when I can get my work done, it’s a lot harder to actually get started 😂 I still get it all done, obviously, but maybe not at the same pace as I would like.
As of April 1st I will be working a full-time freelance contract alongside my other side hustles. I’ve decided that I won’t be including the amount I earn from the full time contract in these Side Hustle Earnings Reports as it’s no longer a side hustle when its full time – this means earnings are going to look a bit lower from April onwards but I’m determined to work on building them up
I managed to bring in an extra £1,217.66 in March!
It’s important to note that this is before deductions – I pay tax on all my side hustle/self-employed earnings so put away around 25% a month to go towards my tax return.
Also, it’s worth remembering that the incomes stated here are based on when invoices got paid so even though it’s down as March income it for invoices that might have covered Februarys work.
Freelance Services
Blogger Outreach and Project Co-ordination – £169.20
This is work I do for GetBlogged and they are the same company I will be starting my full-time freelance contract with in April as a Content Creator. I’ve already started to get used to my new role as we’ve transitioned over a few parts of the job already, It’s going to be pretty full-on but I’m excited to get started!
Social Media Community Management – £210.80
This is something I’m starting to do a bit more of now and have recently signed a contract with an additional client (coincidentally, they are also in the Fintech sector). This sort of role involves creating and scheduling content for their social platforms, interacting and engaging with followers and helping to build a stronger brand identity across their platforms.
Small Business Mentor – £150
Small Business Mentoring is something I’ve always considered offering but hadn’t pulled the trigger on until someone actually approached me about needing help with their business. This is one of those services where it’s tailored made to each client as it completely depends on what they need help with. For this current client, I research current trends they should be addressing with their audience, create graphics/content plans and also schedule content for their FB page to boost engagement and conversions.
Blogging Income
Affiliates Earnings – £211.78 – What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Was this the month I finally got on top of my affiliate marketing strategy? No. Do I think I’ll manage it next month? Probably not BUT my friend Neesha has just released an eBook all about Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers which I have bought a copy of and I can’t wait to get some tips from her as she is absolutely killing it with affiliate marketing! Neesha has also been kind enough to give SideHustleDirectory readers a discount code on the e-book – just use the code ‘charlottemusha’ to get 30% off the sale price.
Paid ‘guest posts’ (aka Copy and Paste posts/Link Insertions) – £102.51- Getting paid for link placements and ‘guest’ posts
March was a very slow month for copy and paste work, this was the total for 3 posts. I do think it has something to do with the frequency you get new posts live on your blog so this might have been a self-inflicted lull in work since I didn’t get much blogging done this month. Fingers crossed for a better month in April!
Get Blogged – £38.54
GetBlogged is the company I work with in a freelance capacity but I also occasionally work with them as a blogger. If you are looking to get paid blog work then they are the perfect place to start, they have a wide range of assignments you can apply for – they then go through and pick out the best pitches for their clients. This was payment for a quick and easy assignment I did with them. It’s definitely worth signing up with them if you are a blogger and checking back on their site for new assignments every few days.
Sponsored Posts – £228.83
These have been few and far between again the past few months although it’s not something I’ve been actively pitching for so that is also a big factor. I do want to start pitching for more paid work and collaborations but I think I’ll probably wait and get April out the way first, I’ve got a bit of work I want to do on all my blogs to fix some old content and speed them up before I take on too much additional work.
Matched Betting
OddsMonkey membership – £106 – Our Matched Betting Profit Tracker/Diary
I have not had much time at all this month for Matched Betting but the money I did make all came from completely free bets – I didn’t even have to place a bet in the first place to get them. It was Cheltenham Festival in March so bookies were giving out completely free £1 bets on the horses here there and everywhere, the £106 I made this month was all from placing those free bets and the horses coming in!
Plans for April
I suppose my only real plans for April are to get my head down and get into the swing of things I guess. The sooner I get into my rhythm with current work commitments the sooner I can see if I have time for more work/clients!
In terms of an earnings goal for April I’m going to set it at £1,500 as that’ll be a good amount to help me cover this month’s bills and build a bit of a buffer into my biz account, I don’t have plans to pitch for any new work but if it comes my way I won’t turn it down 😆
